Directions for Completion of Follow-Up Activities for the Passport

Goals

Authorized Passport Program Activities: Grades K-6

English Learners Institute
Attend a SB 472/Reading First institute focusing on English Learners. This is a new option offered through legislation to meet 40 hours of the follow-up requirement for participants who attend year one training and have not previously submitted a passport.
Grade Level Meetings At Your School
It is expected that all teachers of the grade level (with literacy coach and/or program expert, when available) will meet approximately twice a month for up to 36 hours of work to discuss the implementation of the instructional program based on assessments; and collaborate on planning and reflecting on the teaching of the unit/theme lessons. The time for developing the agenda, conducting the meeting, drafting the action plan, and reviewing progress may be counted for number of hours worked.
Theme/Unit Assessments
It is expected that each school will use a common set of instructional program assessments for their grade levels. Time spent on scoring and analyzing the results and sharing the results at the grade level meetings, constitutes appropriate work for Passport activities.
District Approved Training
The district office may announce and provide after-school training. Approved training provided by the school’s literacy coach or a program expert may qualify for this activity. Trainings should be program specific and/or grade-level specific and directly relate to classroom activities.
Special Events
This activity can augment the required 80 hours of work. The events may feature program experts, researchers on reading, and other speakers who have been authorized by your district for this Passport opportunity. In addition, video tapes of specific program teaching strategies may be provided by the district.

Documentation for Activity (if requested by site administrator/designee)

Documentation may include a meeting agenda, meeting minutes, certificate of completion, or an action plan (with date) as evidence of participation. For the theme/unit assessment activities you may submit a summary report on key assessments on students’ reading performance (benchmark or performance levels established by the grade-level team).

Verifier of Activity

The trainer, literacy coach, or designated school district administrator or staff member can serve as the verifier of the activity.
