Training beyond the first 10-weeks (K-6)
Year 2 (Level 2) training for each grade level, K-6 (Foro abierto para la lectura, HM Lectura, HMR 2003, HMR 2005, OCR 2000, OCR 2002):
- Provides participants with opportunities to discuss and reflect on their first year of teaching the district's reading/language arts program.
- The course emphasizes the phases of direct teaching; refinement of instructional techniques to improve the pacing of instruction; practice of cognitive preparation; ways to effectively plan small group instruction; observation of teaching examples via videos; and the study of current research on reading.
- Provides teachers the opportunity to read, study, and discuss both the scientific research and the program materials in order to reflect and build on their first year of teaching the program
Year 3 (Level 3) training for each grade level, K-6 (Foro abierto para la lectura, HM Lectura, HMR 2003, OCR 2000, OCR 2002):
- Provides participants opportunities to read, study, and discuss the scientific research and to use the program materials to identify and plan strategies that support student achievement and independence in decoding (building fluency), reading comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, writing, and small group learning.
- The training offers content background for participants regarding the structure of English; efficient and effective use of instructional time; teaching examples specific to a grade level via videos; and articulation between teaching language arts in kindergarten through third grade-how each grade level impacts one another.
Year 4 (Level 4) training for each grade level, K-6 (Foro abierto para la lectura, HM Lectura, HMR 2003, OCR 2000, OCR 2002):
- Provides teachers who have taught the adopted curriculum in the same grade for three years, an opportunity to reflect on their program implementation and teaching of reading comprehension and writing.
- The institute will engage teachers in reading and discussion of current research and instructional strategies that inform and enable them to refine the teaching.
